"Mini Amsterdam" - How to Spend a Day in Utrecht

Utrecht is a short 30 minute journey via train from Amsterdam and is thriving in night life and beautiful sights. You can buy train tickets at the train station or tap your debit/credit card on the card readers to scan in and out.

Fun Fact: More people actually live in Utrecht than Amsterdam!

Choosing to spend a day or a couple nights in Utrecht is an awesome decision. Here is our guide to make sure you experience the whole mini-city before you're off to your next destination.

Arrive in the morning

Utrecht has a slower start in comparison to other Dutch cities and is electric at night but quiet in the mornings. If you're coming in from Amsterdam, then take this slow morning to walk around and get a feel for the place. You'll also be able to snap many pictures without any people in the backgrounds.

Lunch

Around lunchtime, the restaurants start to open their doors and you can either grab some lunch in a restaurant along the river or a more relaxed cone of chips from nearby vendors.

The frietjes shop Frietwinkel is supposedly got the nicest chips (fries for the Americans) in the Netherlands, winning many awards.

A Boat Cruise

Even if the weather isn't the nicest, you can jump on a boat cruise around the Utrecht canals and take in the view with some fabulous photos. This was where West proposed!
