One Perfect Day in Belgrade
Serbia is quite a large country with so much to see North, South, East and West. Stopping off in Belgrade for only a day may not be ideal to some, but you can definitely see a lot of the most pressing things in 24 hours. Let's get into it...

Morning

Depending on the time of year that you're travelling, the morning is probably going to be the best time of the day to do a lot of the faster paced stuff, particularly if your travels to Serbia are May-September. Mid September was still 27oC and the hottest part of the day is 4/5pm.

Breakfast has been consumed and now head via public transport to the other side of the river - Zemun. Zemun is the village-type/old town-feel part of Belgrade that is absolutely stunning with the best view point in the city. If you want to skip other stuff, you can do the walk along the Danube river instead of transport. You want to head to Tower Gardos. Admire the tower and just behind it is the best view point in Belgrade.

VIEW FROM TOWER GARDOS
Head to New Belgrade where you can see the most symbolic hotel of the Yugoslavian times - Hotel Yugoslavia. Next to it is the Palace of Serbia where the Serbian people proudly fly the Serbian flag and host important political members for meetings and showcasing Serbia. You can also snap a pic in front of the sign that reads "I love Serbia" in Serbian.

PALACE OF SERBIA
Take yourself for some lunch in Zemun which is filled with wonderful little bistros, cafes and fish restaurants.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, head back to Belgrade and go straight to the Fortress. In the fortress (free entry), you can explore the fort grounds, see various monuments and view the gorgeous sight where the river Sava meets the river Danube.

RIVERS SAVA AND DANUBE MEETING POINT
After, hop on public transport and head to the Church of Saint Sava. Make sure your knees and shoulders are covered and go inside the golden temple.

CHURCH OF SAINT SAVA
Here you have the choice.

If you are an appreciator of religious architecture, then Saint Mark's Cathedral is worth your time. If you'd rather explore something different, then head to the National Assembly and Old Palace of Belgrade. Take in the stunning huge buildings and consider the contrast to the communist-style apartment blocks either side.

OLD PALACE OF BELGRADE
It'll be time for dinner now, surely?

When you're ready, head over to the Bohemian Quarter - Skadarlija and pick a nice restaurant to eat. There is live traditional music so sit back and enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed Belgrade as much as we did and safe travels to your next destination!
